Many professional gardeners don't like electric or gas-powered hedge trimmers because they can chew up leaves and leave behind mangled edges and browned tips. Hand shears give you a better feel for how a shrub grows and where to cut. Still, gardeners faced with a lot of shearing rely on good power trimmers for large jobs.
For best results, you'll want to keep your tools in shape, too. To avoid damaging leaves, hone cutting blades at least once a year. Take power shears to a pro for honing; hand clippers are easy to sharpen with a beveled-edge file. Clean them after each use with soap and water or, if blades are sticky with pitch, a solvent-soaked rag. Then wipe down with a penetrating oil such as WD-40. Store them in a scabbard or on a wall hook to keep them clean.
We sharpen blades here at Imperial Services.

Hand Pruner
Plants are healthier and stronger when trimmed at the right time and in the right places. It's equally important to use the right tool. The hand pruner's specialty is stems and branches less than ½ inch across. For living shoots, grab a bypass-style pruner, so called because the curved blade slides past the bill like a scissor, making clean, surgical slices that heal faster.

Astounding, Award-Winning Gingerbread Houses
Ice Castle
Donna Rorabaugh asked for a Dremel last Christmas and decided it would be the perfect tool for the detail work on this ice castle. The icicles and iceberg featured here were all carved using the rotary tool. She uses smoothing Dremel bits to finish her masterpieces. "The Dremel is great for any corrections, and royal icing covers any mistakes the tool misses," she says.
Boy how creative is this, Yes I know this really has nothing to do with outdoor power equipment, but it sure puts a smile on your face.
We at Imperial Services want to make sure everyone has a wonderful Holiday.
Don’t forget Stocking Stuffers… we have small hand tools that would fit in any stocking.

Astounding, Award-Winning Gingerbread Houses
Gingerbread Castle
Donna Rorabaugh of Rochester Hills, Michigan, likes to think outside the baker's toolbox when creating her National Gingerbread House competition entries: She uses everything from a X-Acto knife for detailing to sandpaper for smoothing. Every year she takes a week off from work to complete her edible construction project. This fantastical castle incorporates not only gingerbread, but also rice crispy treats and pieces of breakaway chocolate. To finish the piece, Rorabaugh used a wood rasp for beveling corners to allow for a snug fit.
This one reminds me of Harry Potter.
Hope you enjoy our Holiday Spirit here at Imperial Services Inc.
